About Taipei Airport
The Taipei (TPE) Airport, officially known as the
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, is an
international airport in Dayuan Township, Taoyuan
County, Taiwan.
It is the busiest of the four Taiwanese airports with
regular international flights and the hub for China
Airlines and EVA Air. TPE was known as the Chiang
Kai-shek International Airport or CKS International
Airport, but in 2006 it changed its name to the current
one.
Taipei (TPE) Airport serves Taipei and the northern part
of Taiwan with the Taipei Songshan Airport, which served
Taipei as its international airport until 1979.
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport managed an
impressive figure of 25,114,418 passengers in 2010 and
is also ranked the 15th busiest freight hub in the
world, while also being the 13th busiest airport by
international passenger traffic.
TPE has two terminals connected by two short people
movers while there are plans for building a third
terminal by 2011 as well as a rapid transit system, the
construction of which has already begun, and that will
link the terminals underground.
Terminal 1 is a five-story building, constructed in
order to relieve the traffic at the Taipei Songshan
Airport, taking over all the international flights at
this airport; it is currently undergoing a renovation
that will add more facilities so as to offer more
comfort to the travelers, as well as opportunities for
fun while waiting to board the next flight. Terminal 2
was built in order to relieve the traffic at the first
terminal.
